January 4th, 2014 – Sermon on “The Lord’s return is a fact” by Dennis O’Banion

Dennis croppedDennis O’Banion’s sermon on “The Lord’s return is a fact”  is the first in a series of 5 sermons about the return of Jesus scheduled for the start of 2014. Dennis started with a general listing of scriptures about the return of Jesus and then focused on the parable of the ten virgins and the wedding feast. Dennis gave a description of the Jewish wedding feast of the time and explained the reason for the lamps the virgins had brought with them. The question of what the oil represents in our lives was answered and a notable quote is “No one can borrow another person’s faith…you can’t get into the Kingdom of God by living near a saved person”

Dennis used the following scriptures: Acts 1:6-7, 11, Matt 24:36-44, 2 Tim 3:2-4, Matt 25:1-13, James 4:14, Heb 2:3

    Dennis,

Thanks for the careful approach to this subject of the Lord’s return. You know it is easier to be the first one in a series, but we won’t let that bother us. I am glad you answered the question about what the oil represents in our lives.

    Dennis,
I appreciated all the time and effort you put into your sermon regarding the Lord’s Return.” Although we have heard the warnings and the caution that we must be “ready”, the urgency of a life of faith sometimes escapes us. Thank you for reminding us that NOW is the time that the door is open and we are invited to decide on a life lived for Jesus. The urgent reminder that “the door will be shut,” should be an incentive to enter into the place of peace now. We appreciate you and all you do for us and the church. May God be very close to you and yours. . .
    Gladys
