Dennis O’Banion, through his sermon  “A Sure Hope in Troubled Times”  subtitled ” Keep your Fork”, endeavored to bring our attention to the reasons we have hope and the nature of that hope.  A few notable quotes were: ” The life of the Godly is not a straight line”, “You ain’t seen nothing yet” and “The best is yet to come”. The reference the “Keep your fork” in the title referred to the unknown yet surely blessed future of the believer.

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “Hell: Is it real?” or “The rest of the story”, focused on the reality of hell in the Biblical perspective and the perception of hell in the minds of the world. Dennis explained the COG7 belief in the lake of fire and examined the reasons people did not believe they would ever go to hell in spite of living a sinful life.  Some notable quotes are: “there is the assumption that everyone is going to make it to the Kingdom of God” and “sin does not have consequences in our society”.

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “Relentless Faith” was based on a description of the Canaanite woman found in Matt.15:21-28 and her faith. Dennis examined the audacity of the woman to approach Jesus and the disciples and then examined the type of faith she demonstrated by persevering in her request for healing for her daughter.

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “The Church belongs to Christ’s Family” examines the church, its relevance and place in our lives as Christians.

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “Do this in Remembrance of Me” was a review of the Lord’s Supper, breaking it into 6 categories : Historical, Belief, Physical, Mental, Spiritual, and Sacred. Dennis stressed the spiritual elements of the Supper and foot washing. Some notable quotes were: “Are you and I taking His Word seriously?” and “How can we follow Christ more closely?”

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “A look at Psalms and the attributes of Scripture” explored the world of the book of Psalms. Using an interactive process, Dennis led us to understand Psalms better. Dennis identified the 4 main attributes of scripture as being Necessity, Clarity, Sufficiency, and Authority.

Dennis croppedDennis O’Banion’s sermon on “The Lord’s return is a fact”  is the first in a series of 5 sermons about the return of Jesus scheduled for the start of 2014. Dennis started with a general listing of scriptures about the return of Jesus and then focused on the parable of the ten virgins and the wedding feast. Dennis gave a description of the Jewish wedding feast of the time and explained the reason for the lamps the virgins had brought with them. The question of what the oil represents in our lives was answered and a notable quote is “No one can borrow another person’s faith…you can’t get into the Kingdom of God by living near a saved person”

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “All things are possible to him that believes”  was described as a lesson on the power of faith. Dennis used Mark 9:14-29 as the primary text and paraphrased it to begin with. He continued with an empathetic interpretation of the text. One quote was ” our faith is sufficient because it is given by God, not perfect, but sufficient”
