December 13th, 2014 – Sermon on “If” by John Brann

John Brann’s sermon on “If” focused on the differences between beliefs about individual salvation. He gave good explanations of the main positions and ended by emphasizing the scriptural basis for conditional salvation, hence the “If”.  Some notable quotes were: “God will never, ever violate our free will”, “If we hold fast until the end”, and ” We are not saved unless we remain in Christ and that is where the “If” comes in”.

John Brann’s sermon “Famine of the Word of God” was a wakeup call for everyone that has let their Bible reading slip off their current to-do list. John started by comparing the effects of famine in Africa to the abundance of food in our country. He moved on to the famine of the true teaching of God’s Word and ended up with a challenge for us to engage in a consistent Bible reading habit including considering a read through the Bible in a year program.

John used the following scriptures: Amos 8:11-14, 2Kings 22:8, Matt. 4:4, 7:15, James 4:8-10, 2Tim. 2;1-5, 16-16, 1Pt. 2:2, Ps. 119:99, James 1:19-25

John Brann’s sermon “It’s just not convenient” started with a historic look at how and why the church changed from the 7th day to the 1st day for the Sabbath. He continued with common reasons not to keep the Sabbath on the 7th day.  He stressed that our relationship with God is the important thing, not keeping the ordinances.  John used the following scriptures: Heb. 4:1 + 18-16.  John also treated us to a video from Sarah Draget in Australia. She sang a song detailing the history of the Sabbath.

John Brann’s sermon “The two faces of Paul and the Law” spent some time determining the effect of Paul’s writings on the keeping of the Law. John discussed the various degrees Christianity has made in discarding the law and  contrasted scripture against this to prove that some elements of the Law are still in effect. He also underlined that Salvation equals Grace plus nothing, but developed the reasons we keep the Sabbath and other laws all tying back into the 10 Commandments.

John used the following scriptures: 2 Pt. 3:14-17, Rom. 13:1-2, Rom. 3:20 + 28, Rom. 10:4, Gal. 5:4, Gal. 1:9, Eph. 2:11-19, Col. 2:8 + 13-23,  Heb. 9:8-10, Col. 2:14, Rom, 2:12, Rom. 3:31, Rom. 7:1 + 12, Heb. 12:14

Feb. 18, 2012 – Sermon on “Paul’s Man of Sin” by John Brann

John Brann’s sermon was named “Paul’s Man of Sin” and this subject was covered well in the books of 2nd Thes and Daniel. But that was not all the sermon included. He added exhortation to abide by traditional COG7 doctrine in the areas of Christmas, Easter and the Sabbath day. The sermon was a call to remember the values that the COG7 church was founded on.

Scriptures used were: 2Thes. 2:1-15, Daniel 7:25-26, Col. 2:8, 1Cor. 10:7, 14, 19-23, Acts 12:4, Gal. 4:8-11, 2Cor 6:14-17
