Matt Sanders’ sermon titled “Motivation is the Key” was a closer look at Legalism. Matt used several scriptures to bring out the difference in interpretations of legalism. He reviewed how following the commandments is not legalism if it is done out of love. He also noted that adding to the law is also legalism as with the Scribes and Pharisees. In the end, motivation determines how legalistic actions are.

Matt used these scriptures: Matt: 5:17-19, 1 John 3:4-10, John 14:15-23, 1 John 5:2-3, Rom. 8:6-14, Phil. 2:5-8, Matt. 5-20, 1 John 2:28

Jeff Kendrick’s sermon “The Sun, the Moon and especially the Stars ” may have been called a talk except for the amount of scriptures he read, that made it into a reading with comments.  Creating a detailed list of angelic characteristics by going through the Old and New Testaments in order, we all know better what an angel is and isn’t and have a better understanding of angels in our world. Abraham’s contact with the Lord and angels, especially around the destruction of Sodom was well covered.

Jeff used the following scriptures: Hebrews 13:2, Hebrews 1: 13-14, Genesis 1:6-24, Genesis 3:22-24, Gen 6:1-2, Joshua 5: 13-15, John 6: 45-46, Genesis 18: 1-33, Genesis 19: 1-29, Judges 13:6, 2Kings 6: 15-17, Daniel 3:24-25, Daniel 8:15-19, Ezekiel 8:2, Luke 2: 8-13, Matt 28:1-4, Acts 10:30, Revelation 10:1, 1 Cor 13:1, Matt 22:28,-30, 1Cor 6:1 -3, 1Peter 1:10-12, Romans 8:31-39

Nathan’s sermon on “The Roads we all must travel” explained the commitment believers must have in choosing the road to eternal life.  Nathan used Saul’s experience on the road to Damascus and the disciples experience on the road to Emmaus to illustrate the first two of three roads we must travel. Damascus is a life changing road, Emmaus is a fellowship road.  The final road found in Matt. 7:13 reads” Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.”

We also learned that there are 4000 miles of roads in Alaska and 152,000 miles of roads in Texas.

Nathan used the following scriptures: Ps. 1, Rom. 3:23, Rom. 6:23, Acts 3:19, Acts 2:38-39, Luke 24:32-34, Matt. 7:13-14.

The audio of this sermon is not available.

Nathan Lawson is an Elder at the Conroe Church of God 7th Day and lives in Conroe, TX.  He is the retired pastor of the Conroe church and preaches upon request.
