September 24, 2016: Sermon on “Forgiven” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as:  A common issue that Christians face is guilt and condemnation. We feel guilty for not living up to the standard set. So, we carry this guilt. This is true of the Bible. The Bible sets a standard of living for us. And many people carry around guilty and condemnation for not being able to live up to the standard. In this message, I speak on what scripture says about God’s forgiveness and peace. We do not need to carry around condemnation if we have already repented and God has forgiven us. For the individual struggling with feelings that God cannot forgive them, I pray that they would know His peace in his or her heart.

The following scriptures were used: 1 John 1:9; Romans 8:1; John 14:27

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as:  In Paul’s letter to Timothy, Paul gives teaches us about discipleship. He shows us what it means to be a disciple. Here is one who is alive to Christ, is faithful to Him, and endures to the end. Paul shows us that to grow as a disciple, one must pursue discipleship with the study of scripture. Studying the word of God is important for our spiritual development. The important thing here is the quality of our character refined by God’s word and Spirit. Paul then shows us how a disciple sets themselves apart from unrighteousness. A disciple is like a flower garden. Weeding is important for healthy growth.

The following scriptures were used:  2 Timothy 2:11-26

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : A part of the mission that Christ Jesus gave us is to make disciples and teach them His Word. Discipleship is more than just making disciples, Christ expects us to fill their minds with His truth. In this message, I focus on discipleship. The Apostle Paul shows us in our text some concepts concerning discipleship. Paul explains what a disciple is. Paul goes on to encourage these disciples to be able to rightly divide the Word of God. Spiritual growth comes through the study of scriptures. Finally, with spiritual growth, Paul shows us that we will need to pull out the spiritual weeds in our lives so that we may be truly set apart for Christ.

Paul used the following scriptures: 2 Timothy 2:11-26

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : We are called to fellowship. We are to be working together in Christ. The Apostle Paul has shown us some ways to have positive fellowship. First, we should have “common spirituality.” We find our first point of connection in our identity together in Christ Jesus. From there, we should have “common growth.” Our connection to each other is strengthened as we grow together in the Lord. Third, we find a “common purpose.” As we grow together, we find a passion for serving Christ and sharing the message of Jesus with others. As we find this common purpose, our fellowship will be strengthened. As our fellowship grows in a positive way, others will want the fellowship that we have. This becomes another way to attract others to the message of Jesus.

Paul used the following scriptures: Philippians 1:3-8

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : In this message, we will look at three tools that the Apostle Paul gives us for sharing our faith. Paul says that God has not given us a spirit of fear. Too often we are afraid to share the love of Jesus with others. We have many reasons why, but that fear hinders us from being effective. Instead, God has given us power, love, and a sound mind. These are the tools for sharing the love of Jesus. Even so, it is like starting up a car. You have the powerful engine. You have gas in the tank. Yet, it will not go anywhere unless you turn the key in the ignition. You may have all the tools that God provides, but you still need to go find someone to share the love of Christ with.
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : I preached this message to our youth at Summer Getaway. I decided to pause the Series on the Mission of the Church this Sabbath to deliver this message about Jesus. I want us to recapture the wonder and amazement of who Jesus was and why He came to die for us. In this message, I had two purposes. The first is to help us relate to Jesus as a human being. The second is to help us really capture the suffering of the cross. Perhaps, we take the name of Jesus for granted sometimes. Yet, Jesus gave up so much to be born as a human being and die for us on a cross. Why did He do it? It was for our salvation
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Paul used the following scripture: Philippians 2:5-11

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : We all have a mandate to love God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Loving God is an act of worship. It is our highest priority as Christians to be worshipers of God. Through worship we can experience God’s presence and power in our lives. In this message, I look at the theological, practical, and spiritual aspects of worship. I will look at the first question: What is worship? The second question I look at is: how are we to worship? The last question I look at is: what happens when we worship?

Paul used the following scriptures: John 4:23; Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:18-19; Psalm 100

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : We are beginning a series of messages about the mission of our church. The goal is to become completely focused on what our mission as a church is. We need to be able to apply this mission to what we do as a church. Any mission begins with the mandate from God. Jesus calls us to love God and others. Jesus commands us to make disciples, baptize them, and teach them His truths. We have a mandate from Christ. That mandate becomes our mission as a church. This message looks not just at this mission, but also how we can fulfill this mission. May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you

Paul used the following scriptures: Matthew 22:36-40; Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:11-12; Philippians 3:7

July 16th, 2016 sermon on “Samson” by Paul Pedersen

Pastor Paul describes his message as:  In this message, we will look at the life of Samson.  Samson was super strong like a superhero.  His power came from the Spirit of God.  Yet, Samson had a super weakness.  His weakness was that he gave into his passions and desires again and again.  Yet, God used that to accomplish His own purposes.  The story of Samson is actually a tragic one.  Samson made wrong choices which ultimately took his freedom, his sight, and his great power away from him.  In the end, his choices took his very life.  As we consider Samson, it is important to understand where our strength come from.  It comes from God’s Spirit.  We should be careful to not lose sight of this.  It is also important that we understand that Samson is not an example of how we should live.  A true follower of Jesus will obey His word and follow His commands.  A true follower of Jesus, will have spiritual fruit growing in their life.  We need to die to ourselves that we may truly know the power of Christ.  May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Paul used the following scriptures:  Hebrews 11:32; Judges 13:1, 24-25; Judges 14:1, 14, 19; Judges 15:14-15, 19-20; Judges 16:16, 20, 28

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : I am continuing the Judges Series: The Unlikely. This message is about Deborah from Judges chapter 4 and 5. However, Deborah is not the main hero of the story. Barak isn’t either even though he led the battle. Deborah said that the glory would not go to Barak, but to a woman. That woman was Jael the wife of Heber. We can convince ourselves that the Pastors or Elders are the ones that God wants to use. God wants to use each of us to be a witness for Christ. It does not matter about our position or title. What matters is our availability to God.

Paul used the following scriptures: Judges chapter 4 and 5
