April 30th, 2016 – Sermon on “Heirs by Faith” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : We want to cling to our religious ideals. Some want to do away with Paul entirely. Some want to disregard and join Jewish religions. I believe that you are aching for freedom in Christ. Christ set us free from sin. Christ set us free from Jewish religious dogma made by man. Christ set us free by fulfilling much of the Old Testament. Now we can be found in Christ.

In this, I begin a series which looks at the relationship of the law and faith. A believer is one who is a child of God set free by faith in Christ Jesus. What purpose does the law serve? The serves as a tutor to point u to Christ. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. In other words, Christ became liked unto a sinner (without sin) to set us free from sin. He is the fulfillment of the law. Being set free from sin, Paul teaches us that the just shall live by faith. It is no longer a “law” based relationship. It is now a faith-based relationship. Yet, we do not do away with the law entirely, but we now view it in light of Christ by the Holy Spirit. Because of this faith relationship, we are heirs of God by faith.

Paul used the following scriptures: Galatians 3, Matthew 5:17; Colossians 2:14; Ephesians 2:15; Ephesians 1:19

    Paul,

Your sermon on the place that faith and works has in our lives was very encouraging. Romans is a favorite book of mine because it spells out so much of what you shared with us in the sermon. Why do we always want a list to check off the things we do for God rather than to experience the relationship of faith in Him and enjoyment of our love for Him. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. We really enjoyed your sermon.

    Gladys
