Nathan Lawson’s sermon about the most imprtant word in Bible prophecy focused on Christians being ready for whatever happens next. Whether it be death or another 20 years of life, are you walking in the light, are you a living sacrifice, is there oil in your lamp, and are you ready for judgement day? So the most important word turns out to be READY. He used the following scriptures: Matt. 24: 1-3, Matt. 24:35-36, Matt. 24:44, Luke 13:22-25, Luke 13:28-29, and Eph.5:25.

The sermon “Jesus: Great Thinker or Immanuel?” by Daniel Imrecke focused on the concept that Jesus is either a fraud or the Son of God and nothing in between. Using the book of John as the source of much of the scriptual reference, Daniel wanted us to look at the scripture in red ink. Including quotes from CS Lewis in Mere Christianity and Bono, he left no doubt that the statements Jesus made either certified him as insane or what he said he was, the Son of God. The following scriptures were used:  John 7: 25-53, 8:58, 10:10-11, 14:16, 8:12, 12:46, 6:35, 4:14, 8:12, 12:46, 6:35, 4:14, 10:27-28, 15: 1,5:6:40, 11:25, 17:24.

Jim Thompson’s sermon on “The Pearl of Great Price” reminded us that our treasure is not on earth, but in heaven. He used many references to make the point including Matt 13:44 and the story of the man finding great treasure in the field and then in Matt 13:45 with the pearl merchant finding a pearl of great value. Both sold all they had to redeem the things they had found. We were encouraged to focus on the eternal gift of life instead of the mundane existence and to get spontaneous and respond to challenges in spiritual ways. Other scriptures he referenced were: Acts 26, Phil 3:7-8 and 3: 44-46, II Cor 3:6.

Jim Thompson is a member of 40 plus years at the Galena Park Church of God 7th Day and preached here for the second time in 30 years.  We were glad to hear him
