John Crisp’s sermon on “Thinking of God’s Love and Ours” focused on how God’s Love was essential, unfailing, and ever-present.  John gave a small test during the sermon where he posed 6 questions about loving God and following His commandments to the audience.  We all failed in some way.

JohnCrispJohn used many scriptures that he didn’t give a reference for, but used these also: Ps. 23, Lam. 2:22-23, Jer. 31:20, 1 Cor. 13:1-3, 4-8, 1 John 4:1-12.

February 9, 2013 – Sermon on “Something More” by John Crisp

Joh Crisp’s sermon on “Something More” was about getting more from our spiritual lives instead of just more of the same. John identified several scriptural references to reaching higher spiritual places and posed the question “Do we wish to stand on higher ground?” Even though he used what looks like a lot of scriptures, they were all on point and had impact.

John used the following scriptures: Acts 20:36-38, Eph. 1:3, 1:7, 1:18-20, 2:6-7, 2:20-21, 3:16-21, John 17:24, 14:23, 8:56, Ps. 119:17-18, Job 42:5-6, Heb. 11:10, 2 Cor.5:17, Rom. 8:35-39,1 Pt. 1:5,

John Crisp’s sermon on “What’s your commitment” actually may have another name and I will change it when I learn what it is. This sermon ultimately asked two questions: 1. What is your commitment and 2. How strong is your resolve.  John used many scriptures to lead us to these questions and they are in part: 1 PT. 1: -3+4, 13:2-3, John 1:12-13, John 3:3, Luke 24:17-21, 18:1-8, Rev. 21:1-4, Eph. 1:18-20, and Heb. 11.

John Crisp’s sermon titled “Chuzzelewit, Pecksniff, Tapley & Pinch” started out with a review of the novel Martin Chuzzelewit by Charles Dickens. John wanted us to be familiar with the characters of the novel so we could understand the examples of selfishness and self-realization he used.  John then continued with scriptural admonitions on selfishness and self-indulgence.

John  used the foillowing scriptures: Gal. 5:19-21, James 3:14, Matt. 23:25, James 5:4-5, Phil. 2:3-8, Gal. 5:16, Ps. 119:36.

John Crisp’s sermon “I have earnestly desired” focused on the origin, history and Christian observance of the Passover. Starting with the Moses and the burning bush and the plagues God sent the Egyptians, moving to the birth of Christ and the Last Supper and then the COG7 observance of the Bread and the Cup and Footwashing, John gave a complete foundation to the emphasis given to this important observance. John used the following scriptures: Ex.12:12-13, Eph. 2:12, ro.6:23, Ro. 5:6-8, 1Cor. 5:7, Luke 19:5-10, Rev. 3:30, John 2:24, Luke 22:14-16, Luke 22:19-20, rom. 7:24-25, 1Cor. 15:57, and 1Cor. 10:16.

Nov. 19th, 2011 – Sermon on “Be Thankful” by John Crisp

John Crisp’s sermon on “Be Thankful” was delivered on the Sabbath before Thanksgiving and used comparisions to Biblical characters to illustrate how we should be thankful.

Some of the scriptures used were Col. 3:15-17, 1 Sam 25: 19, Luke 17:11-19, Psalms 118:10-21.

One of the main points was that being thankful keeps our hearts soft and that we should be thankful for 1. God in Jesus, 2. Family, 3. Church family, 4. Christian Heritage.

Testimonies from Loraine Carr and Sarah James were included.

John Crisp is an Elder at the Conroe Church of God 7th Day and lives in Conroe, TX.
