Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “Hell: Is it real?” or “The rest of the story”, focused on the reality of hell in the Biblical perspective and the perception of hell in the minds of the world. Dennis explained the COG7 belief in the lake of fire and examined the reasons people did not believe they would ever go to hell in spite of living a sinful life.  Some notable quotes are: “there is the assumption that everyone is going to make it to the Kingdom of God” and “sin does not have consequences in our society”.

Michael Smith’s sermon on “[Not] Sweet Talk”  focused on the decisions we make to server God or not and some of the ways we need to protect our faith. Michael started out with a recipe for a sweet and contrasted that with the scripture dealing with Elijah’s challenge to the priests of Baal and the way God revealed Himself to Elijah. He ended with advice on depression.

John Arnold McCoy’s sermon on “Shaky legs, the little drummer boy, and God in high definition” was a mixture of thoughts including John’s testimony about overcoming fear, his respect for how God is apparent in the world, and how our testimony should focus on relating to others how God is real to us.  Some notable quotes are: “What happened in your life that made Him real to you?” and “How do you overcome fear?”

August 9th, 2014 – Sermon on “Photo finish” by Jeff Kendrick

Jeff Kendrick’s sermon on “Photo finish” was a combination of two subjects: Overcoming the lusts of the eyes and understanding the dangers of the internet. Jeff used the scripture extensively to support his points and supplemented them with contributions from women regarding their thoughts on the moral danger of the internet.

Mickey Banda’s sermon on “Courage” included many anecdotes and family stories that he used to illustrate the point that “Courage is action in the presence of fear”.  Notable quotes were: “When does it (courage) happen, how does it come about?” and “Mickey BandaWe have a reason to fear, but we have a reason to be courageous”.

July 26th, 2014 – Sermon on “Look what I found” by Wayne Hrenyk

Wayne Hrenyk’s sermon on “Look what I found” basically pointed us to read the Bible daily as a means of staying a people dedicated to the life of serving God. He exhorted us to put God first in our lives over pursuits such as TV, internet, and other distractions from reading the Bible.

John Crisp’s sermon on “Speaking Wholesome Words” was focused on the words Christians shouldn’t use and the attitudes that spawn them. John gave testimony of his upbringing and the training he received and he gave us steps on how to purify our minds.

Dennis O’Banion’s sermon on “Relentless Faith” was based on a description of the Canaanite woman found in Matt.15:21-28 and her faith. Dennis examined the audacity of the woman to approach Jesus and the disciples and then examined the type of faith she demonstrated by persevering in her request for healing for her daughter.

Nathan Lawson’s sermon on “The Joy of Freedom and the Myth of Freedom” was a consideration of how the freedom that we value as Americans must be subjugated to the Will of God. Nathan gave examples of his delight in the concept of freedom and his greater delight in giving that up in favor of following Jesus.

Tony Riggs’ sermon on “Amazing Grace” started with the essence of the song Amazing Grace by analyzing the title and then proceeded through the song with Tony adding in parts that impressed him. Tony reviewed the life of John Newton and the events that molded him into the author of the song.
