June 4th, 2016 – Sermon on “The Cycle” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : In this message, we will be taking a look at the big picture of what God was doing with the judges. My goal is for us to understand the bigger picture as we begin to look at a few of the judges that God used to deliver Israel. In this message, we will look at the sin and deliverance cycle that Israel repeated over and over. Then, we will look at the reasons that God had for allowing that cycle to repeat. Third, we will look at the judges that God used in those cycles.
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Paul used the following scriptures: Judges 2:16-23

May 21st, 2016 – Sermon on “Faith & Law” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : Paul wrote to the Galatians that we should be free. In this message, I put this freedom into three categories: freedom from legalism, slavish fears, and sin. By legalism, I am referring to those that wished to be circumcised for religious reasons. These are those that obligated themselves to keep the whole law. According to Paul, they were cutting themselves off from Christ and falling from grace. As Christians, we need to see how Christ fulfilled much of the Law. Being free also means freedom from slavish fears. God wants our worship, and He wants us to have faith in Him and His Word. Yet, fear can hinder us from having faith or giving God our worship. We can become afraid of what others think about us. Yet, God’s Sprit naturally drives us towards a sense of spiritual freedom. Being free also means freedom from sin. Jesus died on the cross that we could be forgiven of our sins. This freedom is not so that we can do as we please. Rather, this liberty enables us to better live a holy life and to love others. This can be tough. However, Paul reminds us in Galatians, that God’s Spirit is there to help us. We can stand in this liberty by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

Paul used the following scriptures: Galatians 5:1-7, 13-18; Romans 6:22-23

May 14th, 2016 – Sermon on “The New Covenant” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as: Continuing the Faith and Law series. Paul uses allegory to identify two covenants. With the first covenant, the Israelites were under the law. With the second covenant, we are under grace. Now grace is not a liberty to do as we please. Some things never change like God or the 10 commandments. However, grace has set us free from sin and from the bondage of the law. Grace means we are followers of Jesus. We are born of His Spirt. We are free.
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Paul used the following scriptures: Galatians 4:21-31

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : Hannah vowed to God that if He blessed her with a child that she would give him to the Lord. God blessed her, and she fulfilled her vow. She stated, “As long as he lives, he will be dedicated to the Lord.” God is not asking us to give up on our children and grandchildren. Rather, we dedicate our children to Him. We need to dedicate ourselves to train them in God’s Word and to walk in His ways. We need to dedicate ourselves to pray for our children. We need to dedicate ourselves to surrender them back to God. A day will or come (or for some has come already) when our children will leave the safety of our home. This is the time to put our faith in God and continue to show our children and grandchildren love as they go through the good times and rough times.

For those that do not have children, this message may not impact them as much. However, I believe the principles of faith and prayer can apply regardless of who you are.

Paul used the following scriptures: 1 Samuel 1:10,11, 27

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : We want to cling to our religious ideals. Some want to do away with Paul entirely. Some want to disregard and join Jewish religions. I believe that you are aching for freedom in Christ. Christ set us free from sin. Christ set us free from Jewish religious dogma made by man. Christ set us free by fulfilling much of the Old Testament. Now we can be found in Christ.

In this, I begin a series which looks at the relationship of the law and faith. A believer is one who is a child of God set free by faith in Christ Jesus. What purpose does the law serve? The serves as a tutor to point u to Christ. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. In other words, Christ became liked unto a sinner (without sin) to set us free from sin. He is the fulfillment of the law. Being set free from sin, Paul teaches us that the just shall live by faith. It is no longer a “law” based relationship. It is now a faith-based relationship. Yet, we do not do away with the law entirely, but we now view it in light of Christ by the Holy Spirit. Because of this faith relationship, we are heirs of God by faith.

Paul used the following scriptures: Galatians 3, Matthew 5:17; Colossians 2:14; Ephesians 2:15; Ephesians 1:19

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : The empty tomb of Jesus always brings a reaction. After Jesus’ resurrection, 3 different people ran to the tomb: Mary, John, and Peter. Mary peeked inside and left in fear and doubt. Peter showed up after John, went inside and left wondering what had happened. Peter was rationalizing all the possibilities. John showed up, peeked in, and then went inside after Peter did. John saw the empty tomb, and he remembered how Jesus said that he would rise from the dead in 3 days. When we think about the empty tomb of Christ, we have very similar reactions from people today. So, what does the empty tomb speak to us? First, we realize that the tomb of Jesus really is empty. Jesus resurrected from the dead and is alive today! Second, the empty tomb builds our faith. The resurrection of Christ means everything to our faith. Because he lives, we live too, and will live again at the resurrection. Third, our faith is the victory. My faith in the reality of Christ’s death and resurrection hold me even when times get tough. The greatest critic of God could attack my faith, but knowing the reality of Christ’s death and resurrection keeps me grounded. If I truly believe in what Christ did, then this truth needs defended, and others need to hear about its truth. The truth? Jesus is alive!

Paul used the following scriptures: John 20:1-10

April 16th, 2016 – Sermon on “Called to Serve” by Paul Pedersen

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : Around the time of Lord’s Supper each year, we also do foot washing. Foot washing reminds us of how our Lord Jesus served the disciples by washing their feet. In this, He set an example to us to continue in foot washing. He also set the example of service to our fellow Christian. Some people will not like the be told to serve because it might seem beneath them or demeaning. Yet, Jesus told us to not be like those that ruled over others, but rather to serve and be served by our fellow Christian. As Christians, we are to serve others. Likewise, we are to receive humbly and with gratitude from those that serve us on behalf of Christ. In addition, we are to set the example to others how to serve as Christ would have us serve. No one is above the call to serve. Even those that call themselves “great” are encouraged by Jesus to be the greatest servants to their fellow Christians. We are all called to serve.

Paul used the following scriptures: Matthew 20:24-28, John 13:14-15

Paul PedersenPastor Paul describes the sermon as : King David had sinned. He had committed adultery, and then he committed murder to cover it up. The prophet Nathan confronted David, and David was pricked to the heart. Out of his heart cry, David wrote the words of Psalm 51. We all have a capacity to sin against God and experience the impact of that sin. Thanks be to God, we all have the opportunity to repent and come back to God and have a full relationship with Him. When we are knocked down by our sin, this Psalm shows us how to come back to a right standing with God.

Paul used the following scriptures: Psalm 51:1-19

Paul PedersenPaul Pedersen describes this sermon as: This message concludes our series in Isaiah 53, The Cross of Christ. The crucifixion was horrendous. So, why did Jesus go to the cross willingly? Why did God send His only Son? It was a part of God’s plan. Through faith in Jesus, we can join the family of God and be a part of God’s Kingdom. Through Jesus, many would be justified or placed in right standing with God. Through Jesus, our sins are washed away. Those who are in Christ share in Christ’s victory. It is because of this that Jesus suffered and died. And yet, Isaiah shows us that Jesus is alive! Because He lives, we will live too! Because He lives, we can face tomorrow with certainty!
May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
