Mickey Banda’s sermon on “Kaux-wah Knee Malh” centered on a contrast between the healing of the woman with a hemorrhage and the bringing of life back to the daughter of Jairus, an official at the synagogue, both found in Luke 8:40-56. Mickey mixed these incidents with a modern report of a bible translator working in Bolivia with the Quechua speaking indigenous people and their fascination with the story of the woman with a hemorrhage.

Frank Camarillo’s sermon on “Touched by the Master” centered on the story of the leper being cleansed by Jesus.  To begin Frank asked 3 three questions: 1. How many have met Jesus personally, 2. How many have been touched by Jesus, and 3. How many have experienced an event that has changed their lives (with Jesus).  Frank then expanded the story of the leper by filling in the probable details of his life, the discovery of leprosy, his life as a leper, and his healing by Jesus.  The sermon was concluded with a call for those that needed healing to come to the altar for prayer. Nathan Lawson led the prayer.

John Crisp’s sermon on “Writing the middle chapters” centered on Nicodemus and his experience with Jesus.  John started with Nicodemus coming to see Jesus privately and ended with Nicodemus assisting Joseph of Arimathea with embalming the Lord’s body. John explored three scenarios about what happened in between these two events: the middle chapters. As the sermon developed, John challenged the listeners to be born again, comparing the middle chapters of Nicodemus to our own lives.  Some notable quotes were “The heart of the entire Bible message is found in John 3” and “do the middle chapters (in your life) include Jesus?”

JodyJody McCoy’s sermon on “The Benevolence of God”  started out comparing value systems that we use in our lives and ended up with a testimony of the way God can move in our lives if we let Him. In between Jody elaborated on the way we make decisions and the way we ought to make them as Christians. His testimony related his experiences on a trip to and from Denver and Austin and how God provided many things including  a discussion about creation with his seatmates on the return flight. He thought that to be extremely relevant since he is writing a book on creation.

Jeff Kendrick’s sermon on “The gifts of the Spirit” was a comprehensive look at the gifts of the Spirit in the Church both today and in the early years of the Church.  Context of the scripture used was ensured by reading large segments of surrounding text or entire chapters. The sermon concluded with a challenge to the church members to be more aware of the gifts operating in the church and to ask God to amplify existing gifts and to pray for more gifts, including the gift of giving. A call to pray for a gifted pastor was made.
