Nathan Lawson’s sermon on “Tell the children! Until Jesus comes!” was a call to remembrance of the Lord’s Supper that included many references to great hymns and the words that expressed faith, hope , and salvation in them. After 20 minutes, Nathan declared that the sermon was about to begin and consolidated his message into the reason we remember the Lord’s Supper and how we should pass it on to our children.

Nathan used the following scriptures: Matt. 26:19-21, 26-29, 1 Pt. 1:18-19, Ex. 12:13, 25-27, 1 Cor. 11:26. Some of hymns he referenced were: When I See the Blood, Are You Washed in the Blood?, My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less.

Bill Gilbert’s sermon actually was untitled but “Your salvation moment” seemed appropriate. Bill started with the concept of baptism and continued with the new life in Christ. He focused on our understanding of the “salvation moment” so that we can use it when relating our experience to others and then focused on what being alive in Christ means as a power to make a difference while we are alive.

Bill used the following scriptures: Rom. 6:1-14, 5-19, 4:21, 8:9-11, 1 Thes. 5:24, 2 Thes. 3:3

Bill Gilbert is a member of the Galena Park COG7 and was speaking by invitation.

Nathan Lawson’s sermon “Aglow with the fruit that pleases God” was a vintage sermon that went quickly to the essential questions of Christian life. These questions were posed and answered:

  • 1. How would Jesus see me now and would I be ready?
  • 2. Is there anything I need to change?
  • 3. Is there anything I need to add to my life?
  • 4. Are we willing to bring our lives to the life changing presence of Jesus?

Nathan used the following scriptures: Prov. 4:23+26, Eph. 5:25-27, Ps. 1:1-3, John 15:1-5, 2 Tim. 2:19+21, James 1:12, titus 2:11-14, Rom. 6:22, Eph. 5:7-10

John Brann’s sermon “Famine of the Word of God” was a wakeup call for everyone that has let their Bible reading slip off their current to-do list. John started by comparing the effects of famine in Africa to the abundance of food in our country. He moved on to the famine of the true teaching of God’s Word and ended up with a challenge for us to engage in a consistent Bible reading habit including considering a read through the Bible in a year program.

John used the following scriptures: Amos 8:11-14, 2Kings 22:8, Matt. 4:4, 7:15, James 4:8-10, 2Tim. 2;1-5, 16-16, 1Pt. 2:2, Ps. 119:99, James 1:19-25

February 9, 2013 – Sermon on “Something More” by John Crisp

Joh Crisp’s sermon on “Something More” was about getting more from our spiritual lives instead of just more of the same. John identified several scriptural references to reaching higher spiritual places and posed the question “Do we wish to stand on higher ground?” Even though he used what looks like a lot of scriptures, they were all on point and had impact.

John used the following scriptures: Acts 20:36-38, Eph. 1:3, 1:7, 1:18-20, 2:6-7, 2:20-21, 3:16-21, John 17:24, 14:23, 8:56, Ps. 119:17-18, Job 42:5-6, Heb. 11:10, 2 Cor.5:17, Rom. 8:35-39,1 Pt. 1:5,

John Crisp is an Elder at the Conroe Church of God 7th Day and lives in Conroe, TX and preached by invitation as he does on a regular basis.

Frank Camarillo’s sermon on “A Picture of the Effective Church” started out with a short video clip about breaking down the wall between the church and the culture around us and reaching out.  Frank continued with examples drawn from football teams and how the huddle is a place to get instruction and then go out and implement the play. His point was that we should do more than just attend church, we should get out of our comfort zone and demonstrate our faith and testimony. He concluded with an example of how God can use us drawing on Moses’ experience when first seeing the staff turn into a snake.

Frank used the following scriptures: Ex. 3:1-3, 4:1-2, 9, 7:17, 14:16, 17:6, Luke 9:4-17
